What Is Bowenwork?

Bowenwork

Bowenwork is a system of subtle and precise mobilizations of fascia, muscles, tendons, and nerves, called “Bowen Moves”. The moves are performed using the thumbs and fingers, applying only gentle pressure. Specific sequences of moves are performed, with pauses between to allow time for the body to respond, thereby stimulating the body to restore its own balance. The technique was developed by the late Tom Bowen from Geelong, Australia

How It Works

Bowen addresses the whole body by restoring balance thru the autonomic nervous system shifting from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic which is your Rest, Relax and Repair mode. It is also believed that the stretch reflex, joint proprioceptors, superficial fascia, segmental viscerosomatic spinal reflexes, acupuncture & meridian points, along with harmonic vibration also play important roles. The lymphatic system is activated, thereby stimulating the immune system. Detoxification may occur during a Bowenwork session, which in turn improves functioning at the cellular level.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a very ancient art. Some of the earliest recorded symbols that reflexology was practiced on the feet are from the tomb of Ankhm” ahor which dates back to 2423 – 2263 B.C. There is some evidence that Buddhist monks took this healing art from India to China and Japan. Our First Nations People in North America have practiced some form of healing foot work. The Caucasian population began to take interest in the early 1900’s when Dr. Joseph Shelby Riley began writing books on reflexology and zone therapy. Eunice Ingham (1889 – 1974) investigated the theory further and began writing books and teaching in the late 1930’s. One of her students Doreen Bayly (1900 – 1979) developed the program in the U.K. The practice of Reflexology working through the reflexes, which correspond to all parts of the body are found on the ear, hands and feet

The Reflexes
  • Create homeostasis or a balancing within the body to improve the cellular functioning of the body.
  • Effect the autonomic nervous system by putting the human body into the parasympathetic state of Relax, Repair, & Rest mode.

Emmett Technique

The EMMETT Technique is an understanding of the body’s response to light touch. It has been suggested that the body reacts in a similar way to the workings of a touch-screen.

Emmett Practitioners are highly adaptable to the needs of their clients. The motto of the ‘Chameleon Approach’, is that an Emmett therapist has the ability to assess and tailor the treatment according to the specific needs and beliefs of each client.

How It Works

Small sensors allow access to the brain via the therapists’ touch. As well as the ability to directly influence muscle action, these points may have a memory and emotional attachment.

Key Features

  • Accurate and fast assessments of body imbalances
  • Can be done sitting, lying or standing
  • Client can be either fully clothed or with some outer layers of clothing removed
  • Suitable for everyone from babies, during pregnancy, for the elderly and everyone in between
